Let's help out the Carbondale Warming Center!
We have a fundraising team in support of Coldest Night of the Year, a nationwide event in support of organizations which provide shelter to the homeless during cold weather. The funds raised will go to the Carbondale Warming Center, which is facing an unexpected loss of their shower facilities at their busiest time of the year. So please consider visiting our team page here and joining up by making a donation.
In ancient times St. Andrew's feast day marked the beginning of winter, when the first snows fell, there was less farm work, and the days grew shorter. Early Chiristians would return home early or gather at neighbors' homes, spending entertaining evenings in front of the fire. The following verses marked such gatherings on the Greek island of Milos:
-Saint Andrew, how do you do?
In winter where will you go?
– I’ll stay at home
and light the fire
and treat you all to wine!
I hope we can all help the Warming Center treat our neighbors to heat and a warm shower on these cold nights,
