We have been blessed to be served by priests who embraced us whole-heartedly, who urged us to embrace our community, who crafted thoughtful sermons, and published engaging books. But most importantly, we have been fortunate to have been led by a priest and a bishop who urged us to lead. Please consider coming to our community, to walk beside us in our journey of faith.
A world away...
Carbondale is the largest city in Southern Illinois. Located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, it is far from the sprawl of Chicago but only 2-3 hours from St. Louis, Nashville and Memphis.
Southern Illinois is also very different from the flat plains of Central Illinois. The glaciers which once flattened Illinois stopped just north of Carbondale, and when they receded their meltwater carved large canyons from the sandstone bedrock in the area.
As home to a large university, Carbondale’s diversity also makes it different from most of Southern Illinois and the Diocese of Springfield.
We love living here, and offer this profile on our community to help you understand why.
